RESPONSIBLE REIMA

CSR strategy and goals

It all starts with our purpose: we champion an active childhood to raise a generation ready for the world to come. Our purpose is at the heart of our sustainability strategy, which ensures our broader mission and sustainability strategy are always aligned.

Our sustainability framework has four cornerstones: sustainable product, climate action, responsible value chain, and commitment to all stakeholders. These four pillars form the foundations of our day-to-day sustainability work.

New sustainability strategy

Sustainable product: Reima lasts from one child to another

For us, a sustainable product is one that lasts from one child to another. Uncompromised quality is the core of our business, and our gear is both durable and made in classic designs. Our products are safe to use: we have strict standards for both chemical and physical safety. We invest in sustainable materials: organic, recycled and other responsibly sourced fibers. We prolong to lifecycle of our products with second-hand and repair initiatives, and make monomaterial products for easy recycling.

Main goals for 2026 (clothing and accessories)

  • All styles with synthetic materials containing minimum 50% recycled fibers

  • All Reimatec fabrics and all synthetic wadding and lining bluesign approved
Status: In our 2023 collections, 65% of Reimatec fabrics and 100% of synthetic wadding and lining materials are bluesign approved. And for the first time, 6% of the products in 2023 autumn/winter collection were completely bluesing approved.

  • 100% responsibly sourced natural materials: cotton, wool, and down
Status: In our 2023 collections, 91% of cotton was certified organic, and 100% of down is Responsible Down Standard certified. All our wool will be Responsible Wool Standard certified in autumn 2024.

Climate action: Ambitious targets and accelerating action

In our sustainability strategy review in 2022, we introduced climate action as its own pillar in our sustainability framework, while previously its used be to under responsible value chain. This was done to underline the significance of climate action to our operations. We were the first Finnish apparel company to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative, and our targets were approved in the beginning of 2023. To reach our targets, we are actively searching for ways to reduce emissions throughout our value chain.

Main goals for 2026:

  • 25% emissions reduction per piece from 2021 base year in supply chain / scope 3
Status: This is a milestone target on our way to reach our Science Based Target of 51.6% reduction per piece by 2030. In 2023, the emissions per piece decreased 9% from 2021 level.

  • Carbon-neutral own operations through emissions reduction and offsetting
Status: Our own operations have been carbon-neutral through emission compensation since 2020, and we will continue offsetting these emissions. We also working on reducing these emissions, and between 2021 and 2023 they decreased 44%.

Responsibile supply chain: Transparency and compliance in focus

We are committed to respecting human rights throughout our operations and supply chain. Our Supplier Code of Conduct is based on internationally recognized standards on human and labour rights. To ensure social compliance, our suppliers are third-party audited – mostly by amfori BSCI – and we also conduct our own audits. In the interest of transparency, our tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers lists are public. We work towards a more responsible and climate friendly supply chain together with our partners.

Main goals for 2026

  • All finished goods suppliers audited for social compliance
Status: In 2023, we continued having full audit coverage for our finished goods suppliers in risk countries. We continue working with our suppliers in order to support their improvement.

  • 70% of largest finished goods suppliers meet a living wage level
Status: As the benchmarks for living wage were updated in 2023, it caused them to be more accurate but also caused a decrease in the amount of Reima’s largest suppliers reaching the benchmarks. In the start of 2024 only 12% of our largest suppliers reached the level according to third-party audits, such as amfori BSCI. For the broad impacts we will assess our own purchasing practices and make an improvement plan to better enable the timely, predictable payment of living wages.

  • All shipping and consumer packaging containing recycled materials
Status: In 2023, 100% of the shipping packages were made using recycled materials, plus the consumer packages in Europe. We have also cut paperboard use in hangtags by significantly reducing the number of hangtags per product.

Commitment to all stakeholders: Collaboration and ethical business practices

We believe that responsible companies share a fundamental commitment to all stakeholders: customers, business partners, communities, shareholders and – one of the most important stakeholder groups – the employees. We are committed to conducting business in an honest and ethical manner, and to creating value for all our stakeholders and to the wider community. We collaborate with a variety of organizations to advance a more sustainable clothing industry.
